To register for a program you may call 248-7363 ext 4 OR you can register in person in the Children's Room. Preference will be given to SRPL card holders.

Craft and Food Programs fill up quickly. Please register as soon as possible for these programs. We do not maintain "waitlists" for our programs.

For programs such as Tots Night Out, etc. siblings are welcome but the craft/activity is for the registered child only.

Programs require that participants be within a certain age range, these guidelines are used to ensure a pleasant experience for all participants. Age requirements will be enforced; thank you for understanding.

Please be advised if you are 7 or more minutes late for a program/event you may not be able to participate and your spot will go to a standby participant.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The Shelter Rock Public Library Children's Room invites you and your child to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. This free program encourages you to read 1000 books before your child starts kindergarten - a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read. If you read just one book a day for a year that equals 365 books, 730 books in two years, and 1095 in three years!

  • Ongoing registration is for families with children from birth through age 5 not yet enrolled in kindergarten.
  • A book can be read more than once; repeated reading of favorite books is encouraged!
  • To sign up visit the Children's Room and pick up your book log. After logging 100 books your child will receive a prize and reading log for the next 100 books.
  • Upon completion of the program your child will receive a special certificate.

laptop 2In order to register online you will need a library card. If you do not have a library card, please come to the library so that we may assist you in obtaining a card. You will need to show two forms of current identification with your name and address to apply for a card. Phone and in-person registration will still be available for children's programs.

Great Beginnings

greatThis program of stories, simple songs, fingerplays, and rhymes is designed for children ages 12-23 months with a parent or caregiver.

Choose one of the following sessions:

Session One, Mondays at 10:15 AM; April 12 - May 10

Session Two, Thursdays at 10:15 AM; April 16 - May 14

Registration begins Monday, March 19th

 

Toddler Storytime

small girl readingDesigned for toddlers 2-3 1/2 with a parent or caregiver as a program of stories, simple songs, fingerplays and rhymes with other toddlers and their parents. 

Choose one of the following sessions:

Session One: Tuesdays, 10:15 AM, May 15 - June 12

Session Two: Wednesdays, 11:15 AM, May 16 - June 13

Session Three: Thursdays, 10:15 AM, May 17 - June 14

Registration begins Monday, April 30th 

 

Preschool Storytime

storytime2Designed for children ages 3-5, this is a program of stories, simple songs, fingerplays and rhymes with other preschoolers. Please note: Tuesday Preschool is for children only but the parent/caregiver must remain in the building.

Choose one of the following sessions:

Session One: Tuesdays, 1:30 PM, May 15 - June 12

Session Two: Fridays, 10:15 AM, May 18 - June 15

Registration begins Monday, April 30th 

 

Baby Storytime

storytimeThis program of short stories, simple songs, bounces and play time is designed for children ages 6-12 months with a parent or caregiver.

Tuesdays, April 10 - May 8 at 10:15 AM

Registration begins Monday, March 19th.

 

Tot's Night Out

night owlFamilies with children ages 2-5 years are invited to participate in a program of songs, stories and a craft.

Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00 PM

Dance With Me

dancing kidsChildren ages 18 months to 4 years with a caregiver are invited to join Great South Bay Dance for creative movement dance activities, free play, tumbling on mats, and a story. The use of props, nursery rhymes and imagination make for a warm, exciting class.

Earth Scientist
