TAB meetings for registered Teen Advisory Board members are on:

Our Teen Advisory Board is a dedicated group who works together with the YA Librarian to improve the library services for teens.

 

STEAM for Grades 5-12 

Coding Toys for Teens

Wednesday, November 28th from 4:30 to 5:30 PM

Join YA Librarian for our first session of Coding Toys for Teens. Teens will work together to assemble coding projects from LittleBits and play a fun coding game using the Turing Tumble.

Registration begins on November 14th

 

Hour of Code Demonstration

Monday, December 3rd from 4:30 to 5:30 PM

The YA Librarian will show Hour of Code videos and showcase several project coders can work on. We will have handouts from the Hour of Code website too! This is a program for beginner coders.

Friday, December 7th from 4:00-5:00 PM

Join the YA Librarian and decorate tasty holiday cookies with frosting and sprinkles.

Community Service Programs

For Teens & Tweens Grades 6-12. Community service certificates will be awarded for this program

 

Dog Toys and Adoption Boards for Shelter Pets

Teens will create adoption boards which will promote their adoption. We will also make toys for dogs to keep them busy while they wait for a fur-ever home. With Theresa Maritato.

Board and Video Games

Friday, November 9th from 4:00-5:15 PM

Celebrate International Game Week! Teens will play board games such as Clue, Monopoly, Scrabble and Wii video games including Mario Brothers, Wii Sports and Jeopardy with children in grades 4 to 5. Refreshments will be served.

Safe & Warm Quilt Initiative Campaign

Saturday, December 1st from 1-3 PM

35342271476 695f7b66ac bSponsored by the Family and Children's Association. Teens will decorate or paint a quilt sewn together and will join other organizations' quilts to form the largest quilt on Long Island in an effort to bring attention to helping Long Island homeless youth.

Greeting Cards & Holiday Tote Bag

Wednesday, December 5th from 4-5 PM

Charitable Donations SmallJoin us as we decorate greeting cards and tote bags for individuals at the INN in Hempstead, NY. We will be filling the tote bags with items that we have collected. 

Registration begins November 28th.

 

Babysitting Workshop 

And Introduction to Child Care

Saturday, November 3rd from 1-3 PM

first aidLearn responsibilities and skills needed for child care, from Michelle Vamos, while having fun and making new friends! Topics include: safety/first aid, feeding, diaper changing, dealing with behavior issues, do's and don'ts as well as interviewing and communication basics. Participants will receive a certificate of completion as well as make their very own child care bag. For Grades 5-12

Registration begins on October 20th.

 

Teen Tech Tutors

techSign up if you want to teach Adult Computer Basics, or if you are an Adult seeking computer or technology help. Adults please tell us what you wish to learn when you register. Teens should attend a short training session in the Community Room on Thursday, October 25th from 5-6 PM.

Sessions are: Saturdays, October 27th, November 3, 10, and 17th from 10:15 AM to 11AM or 11:00 to 11:45 AM. 

Teens please arrive 15 minutes early. We meet in the Conference Room.

Registration for up to 3 sessions begin October 13th for Adults and Teens at the Reference Desk.
