Please note: Preference will be given to Shelter Rock Public Library cardholders when registering for our Children's programs.  Phone registrations will be accepted unless otherwise noted. Out-of-district and phone registrations will be available one week before the scheduled program, if possible.  Proof of age is required for first time registrants.

1000BooksLogoThe Shelter Rock Public Library Children's Room invites you and your child to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. This free program encourages you to read 1000 books before your child starts kindergarten - a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read. If you read just one book a day for a year that equals 365 books, 730 books in two years, and 1095 in three years!

  • Ongoing registration is for families with children from birth through age 5 not yet enrolled in kindergarten.
  • A book can be read more than once; repeated reading of favorite books is encouraged!
  • To sign up visit the Children's Room and pick up your book log. After logging 100 books your child will receive a prize and reading log for the next 100 books.
  • Upon completion of the program your child will receive a special certificate. 

 

Toddler Storytimes

preschool storytimeDesigned for toddlers 2-31/2 with a parent or caregiver as a program of stories, simple songs, fingerplays and rhymes with other toddlers and their parents.

Choose one of the following sessions:

Session One: Tuesdays, 10:15 AM; April 14 - May 19

Session Two: Wednesdays, 11:15 AM; April 15 - May 20

Session Three: Thursdays, 10:15 AM; April 16 - May 21

Registration begins Monday, March 16th

 

Preschool Storytimes

Designed for children ages 3-5, this is a program of stories, simple songs, fingerplays and rhymes with other preschoolers.

Session Two, Fridays, 10:15 AM; April 17 - May 22 

Registration begins Monday, March 16th.

 

Great Beginnings

greatThis program of stories, simple songs, fingerplays, and rhymes is designed for children ages 12-23 months with a parent or caregiver.

Choose one of the following sessions:

Session One, Mondays at 10:15 AM; February 23 - March 16

Session Two, Tuesdays at 10:15 AM; February 24 - March 17

Session Three, Thursdays at 10:15 AM; February 26 - March 19

Registration began Monday, February 2nd for children born between March 1, 2012 and February 1, 2013.

 

Lego Creations

legosCome build our own LEGO creation! For Grades K to 5.

Tots Night Out

Yoga For Babies and Tots

yogaLicensed Instructor, Nanette Lavin, will lead children ages 1-3 and their caregivers through a series of one-on-one simple yoga poses. Come relax, bond and have fun with your child.

Book Buzz Bingo with Teens

bingoTeens in Grades 6-12 will play Bingo with Children in Grades 4-5. Using clues from popular Children's Books such as Harry Potter, Holes, Redwall, Hoot, Frindle, Shiloh and more you will guess the title. Books will be on display. Prizes and refreshments

Juniper Books Pizza 2Children in Grades 3-5 read 30 minutes for 30 days in April and join us for a special Pizza Party! Pick up your log sheet in the Children's Room starting March 20. You may read whatevr you like as long as you read 30 minutes each day in April. Be ready to discuss your favorite books at the pizza party!

Spring Book Chats

Children in Grades K-5 are invited to participate in Book Chats, a program designed to encourage them to read and discuss a selected book. The selected book will be available at the time of registration.
