1000BooksLogoThe Shelter Rock Public Library Children's Room invites you and your child to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. This free program encourages you to read 1000 books before your child starts kindergarten - a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read. If you read just one book a day for a year that equals 365 books, 730 books in two years, and 1095 in three years!

  • Ongoing registration is for families with children from birth through age 5 not yet enrolled in kindergarten.
  • A book can be read more than once; repeated reading of favorite books is encouraged!
  • To sign up visit the Children's Room and pick up your book log. After logging 100 books your child will receive a prize and reading log for the next 100 books.
  • Upon completion of the program your child will receive a special certificate.

Looking Ahead to Summer 2015

read to meJoin us this summer as we celebrate reading! Our children have a great amount of free time during this season and we encourage children and their families to participate in our Summer Reading Programs to help maintain their reading skills. Opportunities for sharing books and developing skills include Storytimes, Book Buddies, Book Chats and our Summer Reading Programs. The library will also hold many fun-filled programs such as Chess Programs, Pizza Taste Off, Potato Chip Taste Off, Craft Programs, Board Game Night, Thursday Morning Movies and much more! This year, the theme for the Summer Reading Program for children entering Grades 1-5 as of September is Every Hero Has a Story. Preschoolers, Kindergartners and their families are encouraged to join the Little Heroes Read-to-Me Program.

Registration for all participants will begin Monday, June 8th. Children may begin recording titles of books read on Saturday, June 27 and may record until Saturday, August 8th at 5 PM. Hope to see you here soon!
